If there's one accessory that I can say I like the most it would be the scarf. A beautiful flowing river of color and patterns accents any boring outfit. My father, who is a missions pastor, would travel all over the globe to visit various missionaries our church supports, and would always bring back a new scarf for my mom, sister and me. From India, Turkey, China and South America, all with different patterns or embroidery, showing the brilliance of the maker. Each reflected the personal style of the country. The scarf from Turkey-a country known for its ideal trade location, being the epicenter of East meets West- made from silk with an intricate pattern of paisley etched throughout the design. The scarf from China, while plain in design the texture is of the most delicate silk threads. My mom has so many scarves she uses them as decoration in the home, as each are like a tapestry, draped over furniture it makes my mother's home look like an Arab tent. The coolest thing about scarves is that they can be worn in so many ways- like a tie, draped like a shawl, or just loosely strewn about! My new job!
I wanted to announce that I'm officially an employee of the Safe Children Coalition, a social service agency under the YMCA today! I'm working at the Y-M-C-A...ok had to get that out haha. Comes with its perks- we now have a free membership to all the Y's in the area so hey- working out is now free! Here's the website to the Safe Children Coalition for more information: Foster a Child!
I have just completed orientation today and will start in a couple of weeks. Putting in my two weeks notice at Healthy Families has been emotionally draining, having to transition my clients to new FSW's, saying good byes (which I'm horrible at) and crying every night. I've been meeting with some of these families for almost a year, some people on a weekly basis. We've shared so much about life it seems like leaving an old friend. I pray each night that they see the value of our program and don't become discouraged by this transition. I feel responsible for people's lives...I know I can't do that, that I'm putting too much on myself but when you work with people its always complicated. My heart is hurting. But change always excites me...I'm really looking forward to working with foster children, providing support to foster parents, and spreading the info about foster care. There is so much work to be done to our foster care system...but don't get me started. I just picked up a book recently and its incredibly informative, though heart wrenching as it gives a voice to a few foster children- Orphan's of the Living (Here's a short review). While the book is difficult to read, as the stories of the children living in the foster care system are not simple by any means, it does open your eyes to a new world.

My new hobbie: jewelry making!
Well I guess I can't really call it a new hobby, I've been making friendship necklaces since I was in 5th grade but this new hobby is a bit more sophisticated. I just recently bought Bead Style magazine and have been reading over the different types of materials needed to start as a Beginner. The project I'm going to start on is on the left.
